TREATMENTS USING HYALURONIC ACID-BASED FILLERS

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are one of the essential tools in the hands of an experienced aesthetic doctor.

What do we use hyaluronic acid for?

It is used primarily to supplement atrophied facial structures that appear with age (this process begins after the age of 20). These atrophies mainly affect the subcutaneous tissue and bones – in fact, the injection of hyaluronic acid-based fillers into the skin is very rarely performed. In addition to the naturally progressive atrophy of facial structures, these fillers are also used in the correction of congenital and acquired defects (e.g. after injuries or operations), as well as in minimally invasive nose correction and mouth correction

Hyaluronic acid filling is a variation of the facial implant, therefore its administration must take place with the highest respect for anatomy and in sterile conditions of the treatment room.

What is hyaluronic acid?

It is a naturally occurring sugar in our body, which undergoes the process of the so-called “crosslinking”, i.e. joining into larger structures with specific mechanical properties. An experienced doctor of aesthetic medicine is able to select the preparation he uses in such a way as to best match the properties of the tissue to which it is applied, which is a key success factor for obtaining a natural look (apart from the proper technique of performing the procedure).

How long does the effect last after the injection of hyaluronic acid?

How long does the effect last after the injection of hyaluronic acid? It depends. First of all, it depends on the location where it was applied. The most important factor causing disappearance of the filling is the intensity of the mechanics at the injection site, and thus the forces acting on the product. Hence, in the temple, a filling with the same product will last longer than in the mouth. The second most important factor is the body’s immune response. Injected hyaluronic acid is a foreign body (just like a dental implant or a hip prosthesis) and causes (depending on the quality of the product) an immune response. The last – and least important – factor making the filling disappear is the activity of hyaluronidase (the enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid), which varies from person to person. So how long an effect can you count on? Most often it is:

  • in the temples, around the eyes, chin, jawline and forehead: 18-24 months,
  • in cheeks and marionette lines: 12-18 months,
  • in and around the mouth: 8-12 months.

Which fillers do we use and why?

Because we always put the safety of the treatment first, we only use the three most proven filler brands: Neauvia, Juvederm and Restylane. Of these three, Neauvia is currently the leading product in our clinic. Thanks to its best mechanical properties and immune protection, it allows us to achieve optimal results in the safest way and with the longest effect.
