Treatment of excessive sweating
Excessive sweating in armpits, hands or feet is a common problem causing great discomfort.
What is excessive sweating?
Excessive sweating in armpits, hands or feet is a common problem causing great discomfort. Currently, the best solution, both in terms of effectiveness and safety, is local intradermal injection of botulinum toxin. This treatment causes complete disappearance of the problem in the treated area within a few days.
How does type A toxin work?
The mechanism of this drug is to block the release of neurotransmitters that cause the muscle to act. In the case of treatment of excessive sweating, the purpose of administration of botulinum toxin is to block transmission between the nervous system and the muscles responsible for releasing sweat from the glands. This blockage occurs up to 7 days after administration of the drug and is pharmacologically permanent. So why does the effect of the toxin disappear? Because reinnervation occurs, i.e. the muscles are innervated again.

How long does the treatment last?
This is a regenerative process that usually takes about 4-6 months, so we can count on such a duration of the effect. There are several preparations of type A toxin available on the market, which differ in the volume of the administered solution or storage conditions, but (due to the mechanism of action) do not differ in the duration of the effect. This depends primarily on the body’s ability to regenerate and on the dose.
What does the treatment look like?
The procedure takes several minutes, is carried out by a doctor under local anaesthesia and does not require convalescence.
